Agenda Item Summary:
The applicant has submitted a Conditional Use Permit to allow a caretaker’s unit to be located in the Light Industrial District. The properties, located on South Plaza Drive, were originally developed with shop and space for a concrete business. A caretaker’s apartment was included in plans for the development of the site and was constructed as a part of the development of the site. The existing caretaker’s unit has been occupied since original construction was completed. Since that time, the Rapid City Municipal Code has been updated and a caretaker’s unit is now a conditional use in the Light Industrial District. Today, the applicant is proposing to construct an additional building on the site and would like to include a 1,680 square foot caretaker’s unit on the second floor of the proposed structure. The original caretaker’s unit will not continue to be occupied for residential use as a part of this request.
