Agenda Item Summary:
The City wishes to support the well-being of employees and their families following the birth or adoption of a child. AFSCME and FOP union employees are eligible for paid family leave beginning January 1, 2025. Approval of the Non-Union Paid Family Leave Policy would expand this benefit to non-union employees. The effective date of the policy is January 1, 2025, meaning the birth or adoption must occur on or after this date to qualify.

Offering paid family leave can have numerous benefits for the City and its employees:
  • Paid family leave is an attractive benefit that can help the City attract and retain top talent.
  • Paid family leave promotes a healthy work-life balance, which can improve overall employee satisfaction and morale.
  • Employees who feel supported by their employer are more engaged and committed to their work, leading to higher performance.
