Agenda Item Summary:
The Rapid City Police Department received supplemental funding from the State from Senate Bill 168. This grant supplemented the reduced State’s Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funding for Victims related programming. This grant will fund the remaining salary of the High-Risk Youth Coordinator position which was not fully funded by this year’s VOCA grant as it had been previously. The funding will support existing programming focused on providing improved support to victims and at-risk youth in the City.
The grant requires no in-kind match from the City and does not add any additional reporting requirements outside of the VOCA grant requirements for reporting on programming and service delivery. The grant funding projection is $43,491.40, which will allow the RCPD to provide victim and youth services with a dedicated Victims High-Risk Youth Coordinator.
Why important for the city: Funding is crucial for the RCPD to sustain victim support services and break cycles of victimization with our Youth Outreach Team.
