Agenda Item Summary:
This is a one-time grant opportunity to support activities that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also cutting down on City operating costs. The focus will be on installing building energy efficiency improvements (HVAC, windows, insulation, etc.) for city facilities, schools, and nonprofits; energy generation projects at a city facility and community sites; and lighting improvements at The Monument, Parks & Rec fields, and traffic lights. See attached information for details.
Why important for the city: Not only will this cut down on energy costs as well as pay for needed building and lighting upgrades, it will also help cut down on GHG emissions which helps preserve the air quality and beauty of the Black Hills.
Strings: No onerous reporting or mandatory requirements as a result of the grant (vetted by Attorney’s Office)
