Brief Description: RCFD’s Wildfire Mitigation Program to conduct prescribed fire project. This project will reduce hazardous fuels and restore fire-adapted ecosystems in the wildland urban interface within and adjacent to the Rapid City municipal area.
Why is it important for the city: Removing or modify fuels in and /or adjacent to areas between wildland and urban development lessen the chances of catastrophic fire and its threat to the public and firefighter safety and damage to property.
Fiscal Impact: 50% match. Grant funds cover firefighters, contracted crews, supplies, & indirect costs and portion of supervisor salary. Match covers bulk of supervisor salary and fire equipment.
