Agenda Item Summary:
Rapid City Fire Department is requesting to apply and accept if awarded the Community Wildfire Defense Grant in the amount of $2,316,439.68. The fire department will match $866,225.75 over a five-year term of the grant. The purpose of the grant is to assist at-risk local communities with planning for and mitigating risk created by wildfire. The Fire Department’s Wildfire Mitigation Program would utilize these funds to bolster our ongoing fuels treatments including mechanical thinning of coniferous vegetation and development of a prescribed fire program to reduce the threat of wildfire within Rapid City’s wildland/urban interface areas.
