Agenda Item Summary:
The Bureau of Justice Assistance has created a grant to enhance current intervention initiatives in Rapid City – FY 22 Office of Justice Programs Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative Application.
The Mayor’s office is looking for permission to apply and accept the grant if awarded.
Grant Requirements
• No city match required
• 36-month duration
• Reporting requirements for grant activity on community violence initiatives
Program Scope
• Enhancing current violence oriented victimization/gun/drug initiatives in Rapid City
• Building capacity and sustainability in our community services providers
• Providing boots-on-the-ground violence intervention and services that are community-oriented.
• Creating City capacity for programming and community support.
Grant Funding
• $2,000,000
• Funding would be utilized to create a program manager at the City to administer this grant.
• Funding would sustain the Human Services Coordinator position at the City.
• Funding would be utilized to create 6 positions in the community focused on youth mentorship, responders to violence, service navigation, and support community runaway coordination.
