Agenda Item Summary:
It is well documented that drug related crimes are on the rise. With the increase in drug related crimes comes an increase in the demand for controlled substance testing. The Rapid City police department was recently awarded $85,000 from the SD Drug Control Fund to purchase additional analytical instrumentation to augment the Laboratory’s controlled substance testing capabilities. Please find attached a quote in the amount of $76,448.64 for a new Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry System, and a UV-Vis Spectrometry. These pieces of analytical instrumentation will be used in the RCPD’s Controlled Substance Laboratory, and will greatly enhance the laboratory’s capabilities, and assist the Laboratory in meeting the increased demand in controlled substance testing.
