Origination Meeting Date:
City Council Hearing Date:
Joel Landeen, City Attorney
Agenda Item Summary:
The Community Health Center of the Black Hills (CHCBH) is the only federally qualified health center within a 150 miles of Rapid City. It provides primary medical, dental and mental health care to clients who are traditionally underserved by conventional medical facilities and providers. In 2015, the CHCBH provided services to 12,330 individuals. In 2015, the CHCBH also moved into a new consolidated facility which contains approximately 3,000 square feet of unfinished shell space. CHCBH would like to complete this unfinished space as a mental health pod to expand its ability to meet the community’s need for additional mental health services. The funds from the Vision Account would be used to complete the design and construction of the space. The CHCBH’s annual operations budget is approximately $9 million and is funded 35% by Medicaid payments, 7% by Medicare payments, 9% by private insurance, 34% by grants, and 15% by patient payments. CHCBH would fund the operational costs and increased staff for the mental health pod through its normal operations budget in the same manner that it funds its primary care and dental operations.
Funding Source & Fiscal Impact (if applicable):
|The funds for this project will be paid out of the Vision Account. The amount allocated for the project is $523,406. There are sufficient funds in the account to cover the project costs.|
