Rural America Initiatives (RAI)
Joel Landeen, City Attorney
Agenda Item Summary:
This agreement authorizes the expenditure of funds from the Vision Account to help fund RAI’s new facility to house its head start and other programs. The total cost of the center is estimated to be $7.1 million dollars and the City’s contribution from the Vision Account is $2 million. The agreement is based on the agreement the City previously entered into with Wellfully for use of Vision funds to construct their facility. The agreement is structured so that RAI will pay for the design and pay for the initial construction work and seek reimbursement from the City once the work is completed and paid for by RAI. Since the project is being paid for in part by public funds, RAI has agreed to follow state laws on public bidding. RAI is moving forward on the project. They have acquired the land and are working on completing their financing. RAI expects to be under construction sometime early next year.
