Agenda Item Summary:
There is a need for grant funding to assist low-income homeowners with minor repairs to their homes to improve safety, security, and water and energy efficiency.
The Fire Department, Police Department and non-profit agencies have approached Community Development at various times recently for assistance in identifying funding to address the above listed types of needs. These are eligible uses for Community Development Block Grant Funds. The Neighborhood Restoration Loan Program is limited to projects of $1,000 or more, and while these types of projects can be done as part of a larger project, there is no funding available for doing smaller projects where the homeowner can’t afford the materials or the labor costs.
CDBG funds may be used to purchase materials, with installation by volunteers or a paid contractor. Church groups, community members, firemen and police officers have expressed their willingness to volunteer for the installations
