Agenda Item Summary:
A request was received in the Engineering Office on December 2, 2020 requesting the requirement
to install sidewalk along Skyview Drive per City of Rapid City Ordinance 12.08.060 be waived. A fourfoot
wide sidewalk is required to be constructed along Skyview Drive, at the time of building permit,
with the property having approximately 270 feet of frontage along Skyview Drive. All of the properties
along Skyview Drive are developed along with said property and no sidewalks in place. The property
owner is looking to build a detached garage on the property triggering the need to install sidewalk.
The requested variance will allow for construction on the property without the installation of sidewalk
in the adjacent Skyview Drive right-of-way. The adjacent Skyview Drive is a two lane, paved, rural
street section with no sidewalks and topographical conflicts. The closest sidewalk is roughly 1000
feet to the north on Corral Drive.
