Agenda Item Summary:
Due to the financial uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, along with the City’s continued negotiations with another bargaining unit, both parties agreed to the attached one-year Agreement. Changes include: changing sick leave and short-term disability leave to bi-weekly accruals, rather than giving a year’s worth of leave on January 1; removing the make-up and procedures of the Healthcare Committee from the contract, to allow that committee more flexibility; clarifying the promotion process; adding specific reasons for overruling an officer’s shift-bid choice, to better inform employees on the needs of the Department; clarifying what the City pays for as part of the required annual physicals; offering paid maternity leave to officers after their probationary period, in an effort to recruit more women; and removing the limitation on how much sick leave can be used for family illness, as opposed to the employee’s illness. This Agreement includes a 3% matrix increase on January 3, 2021 (the first day of the first pay period in 2021).
