Any person or organization may make nominate a local Veteran Caregiver. Nominations will be screened by the Black Hills Veteran Caregivers Office to ensure validity. The City Council Representatives from the recipient's ward will assist the Mayor in presenting this award at the second City Council meeting of each month.

The nominee shall reside within the Black Hills community. City of Rapid City employees, and elected or appointed officials are not eligible for nomination, but are eligible to bring nominations forward.

The Hidden Hero of the Month honoree will be presented with a certificate of appreciation, at the second regular City Council meeting, during the month the recipient is chosen to be honored. A photo and biography of the recipient will be posted on the Hidden Hero of the Month webpage on the City of Rapid City's website: rcgov.org.
