Q: How do I get my alley paved?
.......A: The City has a program that pays 40% of the cost with the other 60% being paid for by the adjacent affected land owners. (Contact Engineering Services, 394-4154)

Q: Can I plant trees/do landscaping in the boulevard area in front of my house?
.......A: Yes, but with some stipulations. All work in the Public Right-of-Way requires a permit (currently free) to do any work on public land. Eight feet is considered the minimum distance between your sidewalk and the back of curb to plant a tree in the middle of the boulevard. (Contact Engineering Services, 394-4154)

Q: Do I need a permit to repair the public sidewak in front of my property?
.......A: Yes, all work in the Public Right-of-Way requires a permit.

Q: Can I build a brick mailbox?
.......A: No, City Ordinance's prohibit building structures in the Public Right-of-Way. The US Postal regulations require a specific break away mount of a style that has been crash tested and approved. (Contact Engineering Services, 394-4154)

Q: How do I get the City to repair my street?
.......A: Call the Streets Division at 394-4152, or go to the Rapid City web site @ www.rcgov.org
