Citizen of the Month!
September 2005
Congratulations Ellsworth Task Force!

The September 2005 Citizens of the Month are an exceptional group of community activists who worked tirelessly in their battle to save Ellsworth Air Force Base. The City of Rapid City is very pleased to recognize this group of individuals with the Citizens of the Month award.

The Ellsworth Task Force has been in operation behind the scenes for many years, working diligently on Ellsworth’s behalf to eliminate barriers that could hinder the Base. This group has provided the teamwork so necessary to persuade the BRAC Commission to vote to remove Ellsworth from the closure list.

The coordinated efforts of the Ellsworth Task Force were so evident at the June 21st BRAC hearing in Rapid City. This well planned event, the largest of all the BRAC hearings, clearly showed the military importance and community support for Ellsworth Air Force Base. You are to be congratulated for your continual use of facts, figures and sound reasoning rather than emotions and political attacks.

Thank you, Ellsworth Task Force for your perseverance and commitment to the task at hand. Congratulations and please accept this award on behalf of a grateful community. Through your efforts and those of the South Dakota Congressional delegation, the men and women of Ellsworth will remain a vital part of our national defense as well as a part of the State of South Dakota.
