Congratulations Marion Grant!

The May 2005 Citizen of the Month is an individual who volunteers in our community and works to make a difference in the lives of many citizens. As Mayor of Rapid City, I am pleased to present the Citizen of the Month award to Marion Grant.

Marion has been a resident of Rapid City for the past twelve years. She has been a tireless volunteer for the Eagle Auxiliary from 1988 to 2005, serving twice as president, vice president, guard and chaplain. She is an eleven-year member of the Women of the Moose, working with local charities and volunteering time to sell pies and serve meals. Marion has held numerous offices for the organization.

Marion has been a twenty-four year member of the Does, served as State President in 2002, Doe of the Year in 2001, Doe President in 2000 and various other local offices of Does #33. She has served as a member of the South Dakota Veteran Cemeteries Support Council and worked on numerous charities and fund raisers for the Does.

As a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for twelve years, Marion served as State VFW Auxiliary Deputy to Ft. Meade, VFW Auxiliary President from 2001-2003, twice as District President and other local offices with the Auxiliary. She has volunteered time working the pancake feeds and providing dinners for funerals of veterans, volunteered with the VFW Jr. Girls camp, currently runs the bingo games for veterans at Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital in Sturgis and Hot Springs, helps to decorate their rooms at Christmas time and helps with the sewing alterations for patients in the veteran hospitals. As a member of a local sewing club, Marion makes walking bags, oxygen bags, bibs, lap covers, and other items for the nursing homes in Rapid City, Ft. Meade and Hot Springs at the State home. She helps with the repair project of the veteran’s cemetery flags as well as collecting stuffed animals for the local needy children. Marion has worked with the Halloween Carnival since 1999.

Marion is the mother of two sons and one daughter and grandmother to seven.
