Citizen of the Month!
January 2005
Congratulations Daryl Brunson!

January’s Citizen of the Month is an individual who is known for his countless hours of community service. We are proud to present this Citizen of the Month award to Daryl Brunson.

Daryl first joined the Retired Senior Volunteers in 1997 and immediately got busy helping out several organizations with their fundraising and other activities.

Daryl is the Toy’s R Us volunteer coordinator for the RSVP gift wrapping fundraiser. During the month of December, he volunteered twenty-one straight days giving more than 165 hours on that one project alone, for a total of 209 hours. In addition to the gift wrap, Daryl volunteers with the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Easter Seals, Pennington County Emergency Management Office, the Black Hills Heritage Festival and the Black Hills Job Fair. He does such a fantastic job, that many of the events he participates in locally have asked him to help with similar events in the Northern Hills area.

In addition to all of the above activities, Daryl also volunteers as a greeter here at the City School Administration Center on a weekly basis and many times more than once a week. He fills in at the RSVP Office helping with a variety of tasks when extra help is needed.

Daryl is the type of person that is up for most anything and always demonstrates a positive “can do” attitude over and over. Those who work with Daryl enjoy his wit, endless energy and enthusiasm for every volunteer job he does. While Daryl is legally blind and can no longer drive, he averages more than ninety-five hours each month to the community, refusing to let things slow him down.

Daryl retired in 1997 from the Rapid City School District where he served as a custodian for twenty-four years. He is married to Rose and they have two grown sons.
