Sarah and Robbie Anderson have designed and built floats for the Parade of Lights winning the 2004 award for their float for Habitat for Humanity. They supply everything that the charity might not have. If their vision requires extra lights, the Andersons buy them in addition to arranging for the lumber and building supplies for all their projects. They recently designed the Red Cross float for this year’s parade. The Anderson’s have put together Haunted Houses by designing and building the effects and the interior. The KSQY Haunted House benefited the United Way by raising $4,000 in 2004. In 2005, Sarah and Robbie built a Haunted House for the Dahl, putting in an incredible amount of time, energy and brainpower into making the house a success. Each night the Haunted House took over 20 volunteers to operate and they served 760 people and grossed over $3,600 for the Arts Council. Individually, Robbie has spent a great deal of time this past summer totally rebuilding the BMX track in the Robbinsdale Park – all volunteer work. Sarah participates in the Bowl for Kids Sake as well as creating publicity campaigns for events at no cost to the charity. Their nominator noted that one of the most impressive things about the volunteer work done by the Anderson’s is that they ask nothing but a thank-you. This is a rare couple that truly deserves the honor of being named Citizens of the Month. Robbie has lived in the area
most of his life, originally from Spearfish. Sarah is from England and
for the past fifteen years, they have called Rapid City home. They have
two teen-aged children – Jillian and Jason who help them in all
their civic volunteerism. |
