Tonchi Weaver is the epitome of a good citizen. She is employed on a full time basis, active in community affairs as well as playing an important role in our Sister City Partnership with Apolda, Germany. She has served as Chairman of the Board and as President. Her activities with the Association have included hosting an exchange student in her home for the school year and traveling to Apolda for the 10th anniversary. Last October, Tonchi and her husband, Joel hosted a German couple involved with the Sister City Partnership. On the second day of hosting, the man became very ill and after a couple days, Tonchi insisted he be seen by a doctor. The man was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and was air-lifted to Rochester, Minnesota. The couple spoke very little English, so Tonchi and her daughter drove to Rochester with the couple's belongings to insure that things went smoothly for them and to assist in making arrangements for the couple's return flight home to Germany. Through her efforts, things went smoothly for the couple and Tonchi has made two more life-long friends. Samantha McCully who nominated her notes that Tonchi is so selfless and giving and has done so many things through the years that she is truly deserving of this award. Tonchi is actively involved with Blessed Sacrament Church; she was selected for the Police Department's Citizens Academy. She is a member of the Second Amendment Sisters and a tireless volunteer to other community activities. Tonchi is also an active participant of MS walks to support her close friend who is suffering from the disease. Tonchi was born
and raised in Lead, with six brothers and sisters. She is married to
her high school sweetheart, Joel and they have two daughters, Samantha
McCully and Erica May, both living in Rapid City. |
