Congratulations to Margaret Rossknecht!

The April citizen chosen to be recognized has given her time to volunteering in our community. The award is presented to Margaret Rossknecht of Rapid City.

Margaret is a retired nurse who joined the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in 1996. On her registration form, Margaret wrote "I'm willing to work anyplace, whenever I'm in town" and for the past six years, she has more than demonstrated that willingness. Margaret has averaged more than 145 hours of volunteer time each month.

Margaret is a very active volunteer at the Canyon Lake Senior Center where she helps with the dances, various dinners and bake sales. She helps with decorations, making runs to the food bank in addition to providing clerical support for various committees and at the Minneluzahan, she helps with dances, dinners and fundraisers. Margaret volunteers with the SHARE South Dakota food distribution, provides clerical support to the AARP Office and Hospice of the Hills. She is very active with the Black Hills Senior Games and helps out the RSPV office with various projects and fundraisers. In addition to all of this, Margaret is active in St. Therese Parish, Alter Society and Catholic Daughters. She finds time to assist a disabled neighbor with a variety of living tasks.

Margaret retired after 35 years from Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was married to Ralph Rossknecht who was manager of Family Thrift Center for several years. Margaret has five children - Ron lives in Hill City, Becky in Rapid City, Kathy in Michigan, Terry in California and Ralph in Oregon. She has ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
