Recycling Programs

Curbside & Alley Collection Hours: Mon - Fri  7:00am - 3:30pm

Curbside Collections:

Recycling and garbage containers must be placed curbside or in designated alley locations by 7:00am.

Containers must be placed 4 feet from any object or structure such as cans, vehicles, mailboxes, utility poles, retaining walls and fences.

All garbage must be bagged and tied.

Yard waste must be in paper yard waste bags. Branches tied in small bundles 4’ long. Yard waste is NOT permitted in the blue or grey cans or in plastic bags.

Curbside yard waste collection is seasonal: April - November.

For specific Rapid City Residential collection days, yard waste, and holiday collection please enter your address on the My Waste portion of this website.

Curbside Blue Bin Recycling: Please place the following items in the blue bin.

Aluminum:  beverage cans, food cans, aluminum bottles, hairspray cans, shave cream cans, and spray starch cans.

Steel:  vegetable cans, soup cans, food cans, coffee can, empty paint cans, and empty aerosol cans.

Plastics: milk jugs, detergent jugs, soda bottles, water bottles, hair care bottles, food containers, empty, paint containers, drained oil containers, items with a recycle triangle on the bottom. Please triple rinse pesticide or other toxic substance containers.

Glass: beverage bottles, jars. Please Remove Lid

Please DO NOT place these items in Blue Containers: Styrofoam , plastic grocery bags, food wrap, automobile oil, plastic toys, aluminum foil, packing peanuts, Pyrex, pool chemical containers, shiny cardboard, paperboard, cereal boxes, drinking glasses, light bulbs, ceramics, window glass, mirrors, PVC, scrap metal: toasters, pots, coat hangers, service pans, pie tins & roasting pans.  No Garbage Please.

Recycling Drop-off Site

Newspapers: Newsprint: including insert flyers and packing paper.

Corrugated Cardboard: Moving & shipping boxes: Please flatten.* NO shiny or waxy surface paperboard, cereal, beer & soda boxes & pizza boxes.

Co-Mingled Recycling:  Plastic-Steel-Glass-Aluminum.  Deposit items as mentioned in the curbside recycling section.

Entrance to the Rapid City Landfill: South Highway 79

West Boulevard North: Anamosa Street & Service Road West I-I90

Fitzgerald Stadium parking lot: Sheridan Lake Road across from Sioux Park

Yard Waste Drop-off Sites  Seasonal - April – November

Yard Waste: Grass clippings, Tree branches: Must be under 6’ long & 4” diameter. Organic yard materials only, Use only biodegradable paper yard waste bags, Christmas trees: Seasonal, NO plastic bags, Lumber, or pallets.

Recycling and Yard Waste Collection Site located at the entrance to the Rapid City Landfill on South Hwy 79 remains open year round for yard waste and recycling disposal. This facility is open 24/7, secured and lit for your convenience.

Public Safety Building Lobby: 300 Kansas City St, 7:00am - 6:00pm  Monday - Friday

City School Administration Building CSAC: 6th St, 8:00am - 5:00pm  Monday - Friday

Landfill Education Center: South Highway 79, 7:00am - 4:45pm  Monday - Saturday

          Saturday winter hours: 7:00am - 2:45pm

Waste Oil

Rapid City Landfill: Motor Oil Collection days/hours: Wednesday 9:00am – 4:00pm, Saturday 9:00am – 4:00pm.

The Rapid City Landfill only accepts clean, used oils (No Cooking Oils), free of water, antifreeze and other contaminants.
