PREPARING
A HOUSE
FOR WILDLAND FIRE SEASON |
|
|
|
If you are interested in making your home
or property more survivable to the threat of a wildfire, the
Rapid City Department of Fire and Emergency Services has more
information for you.
- The Fire Department can send firefighters to your house
to conduct a site assessment and give you helpful suggestions
of steps to take.
- The Fire Department may be willing to conduct a prescribed
fire on your property in an effort to reduce vegetation,
which acts as a fuel to an approaching wildfire. This procedure
is performed under strict guidelines that deal with things
such as the time of year, expected fire behavior, current
weather conditions, and characteristics of your property.
- You may be able to get a burn permit issued from the Fire
Department to burn dead fuels that have been stock piled
on your property.
For more information, contact the Rapid City
Department of Fire and Emergency Services at 394-4180, e-mail,
or stop by a Fire Station near you.
