 RAPID VALLEY AREA - Construction Work

Construction crews will be installing a water main along South Side Drive East of Anderson Road, Dunn Road between Anderson Road and Radar Hill Road and Radar Hill Road between East Highway 44 and Morris Lane from January 31, 2017 to August 31, 2017.  The roads will remain open to traffic at all times during the project.  If you have any questions, please contact Mainline Contracting, Inc. at (605) 348-7068. 

Alley between North 7th Street and Allen Avenue
from Adams Street to North Street  - (NEW)

The Alley between North 7th Street and Allen Avenue will be closed from Adams Street to North Street from April 13, 2017 to April 26, 2017 for construction of drainage improvements.  If you have any questions, please contact Tru-Form Construction, Inc. at (605) 787-5187. 

Baldwin Street - Street Closure

Baldwin Street from Wedgewood Drive west to South Berry Pine Road will be closed to through traffic from March 27, 2017 to November 17, 2017 for street and utility reconstruction work.  If you have any questions, please contact R.C.S. Construction, Inc. at (605) 342-3787.

Haines Avenue - Traffic Restriction and Construction Work (NEW)

Southbound traffic on Haines Avenue may be restricted from Seahawk Drive south for approximately 300 feet for construction work on the shoulder of the road from April 24, 2017 to May 1, 2017 for the construction of drainage improvements.  If you have any questions, please contact Tru-Form Construction, Inc. at (605) 787-5187.

MOUNT RUSHMORE ROAD (UPDATED April 20, 2017)

Paving is anticipated to begin today in the southbound lanes of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Patrick Street to Flormann Street. Work on curb and gutter, fillets, lighting and associated side street surfacing is expected to follow. Access to businesses on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road, between Saint Patrick and Saint Anne streets, will be available from Ninth Street

Removals in the southbound lanes of Mount Rushmore Road, from Franklin Street heading south to Saint Patrick Street will continue. The west half of the Franklin Street intersection and the alley south of Franklin Street will be closed for work on water and sanitary sewer. Work on storm sewer is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of April 24 at Saint James Street moving south.  There will also be intermittent closures of the west half of the Mount Rushmore Road/Saint Cloud Street intersection for grading, surfacing and lighting.

Work on spall repair and lane striping on Mount Rushmore Road, between Omaha and Kansas City streets, is tentatively scheduled to begin April 24. This work is anticipated to last two to three weeks. Temporary lane closures will be set up in this area as the work is being done.

Work continues on medians, pavement markings, retaining walls and landscaping from Kansas City Street to Saint James Street. North and south bound lanes have been reduced to one lane. Pedestrian access between Clark and South streets on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road will remain closed until sidewalk and handrail installation is completed. Temporary Pedestrian Access Routes will be maintained at Fairview and South streets. The anticipated completion date of work on the project between Kansas City and Saint James streets is May 2017.

Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. A “Temporary Pedestrian Access Route” will be maintained on the east side of Mt. Rushmore Road through the first phase of construction. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.

Weekly progress meetings at The Rushmore Hotel are held every Wednesday at 8 a.m. for the project between Saint James and Flormann streets, and every Wednesday at 9 a.m. for the project between Kansas City and Saint James streets. Seger Drive from the Intersection of 143rd Avenue to the
Intersection of North La Crosse Street and East Mall Drive - Street Closures

Seger Drive from the intersection of 143rd Avenue to the intersection of North La Crosse Street and East Mall Drive will be closed to traffic from March 21, 2017 to November 17, 2017 for drainage improvements and utility and road reconstruction work.  Please use an alternate route of travel.  Freeland Subdivision north of Seger Drive can be accessed via the intersection of East Mall Drive and Seger Drive.  If you have any questions, please contact Highmark, Inc. at (605) 718-7424.

Southside Drive #1 - Construction Work (NEW)

Effective Thursday, March 30, 2017, utility work for the City’s Rapid City Water Expansion-Southside Drive Water Main Extension project will begin.  The project includes the area to the west of the intersection of Southside Drive and Redemption Road, work will continue to the west to Anderson Road and the southeast side along Anderson Road to Winton Street.  During this time of utility improvements, the work for the project will be occurring along the south shoulder of Southside Drive and the east shoulder of Anderson Road.  All work will be complete by November 17, 2017.  If you have any questions, please contact Lind-Exco, Inc. at (605) 348-6115.

Southside Drive #2 - Construction Work

Construction crews will be working on Southside Drive between Anderson Road to Reservoir Road to install a sanitary sewer main from March 6, 2017 to June 30, 2017.  Detour routes will be posted.  If you have any questions, please contact Highmark, Inc. at (605) 718-7424.

West Omaha Street - Street Closure and Public Access Closure

Effective April 4, 2017, Oshkosh Street south of West Omaha Street will remain closed for utility work for the West Omaha Drainage and Utility Improvements project.

The Disc Golf Course and Soccer Field parking lot will be closed to Public Access through July 15, 2017
