Salamun Jason 2024

Jason Salamun draws from a wide range of leadership experiences including being a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a vice president at Black Hills Federal Credit Union, and serving as executive pastor at Fountain Springs Church. In June of 2023, he was elected mayor of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Fueled by a desire to serve our community, Jason was twice-elected to the Rapid City Common Council and served as council president from 2017-2018. In addition, he's been engaged in numerous civic, ministry, and non-profit initiatives and boards of directors throughout the Rapid City area.

Born in west Texas, Jason moved to Rapid City in the late 1980s. He was locally educated attending Canyon Lake Elementary, West Middle School, Stevens High School, and Black Hills State University. In addition, he is a graduate of both the Leadership Rapid City and Leadership South Dakota programs.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1996 and met his wife Gwyn while he was stationed in Colorado Springs, CO. Following his military service, they returned to Rapid City to plant their roots, raise their family, and build their life together. Gwyn currently works as a nurse and they are blessed with two adult children who are both happily married.

Jason is living proof that Rapid City is where possibility lives. As mayor, he is driven to help our community be an even better place to raise a family, grow a business, and live the American dream.
