Office of the City Attorney

MISSION STATEMENT

The City Attorney is legal counsel only for the city and cannot represent or provide legal advice to private individuals. The City Attorney's duties are created by Rapid City Municipal Code Section 2.16.020:

When required by the city council or any officer of the city, the City Attorney shall furnish an opinion upon any matter relating to the affairs of the city or the official duties of such officer; conduct the prosecution of all actions or proceedings arising out of the violation or any ordinance; and perform such other professional services incident to his office as may be required by ordinance or directed by the council.
