Youth Outreach! Rapid City Police Department Academy is an 8-week program for area youth ages 16-18. The program is designed to educate participants about police work, encourage students to consider careers in law enforcement, and motivate students to act as partners in building a safer community.
The course is held each spring, and covers topics ranging from gang issues and drug enforcement to accident investigations and emergency response. Students will have an opportunity to drive a patrol car through a challenge course, ride along with a patrol officer on shift, participate in a firearm simulation course, and meet the K-9 Unit, among other activities.
The Spring 2012 YO! Academy will be held on Mondays from 4-7 p.m., beginning March 5. Class size is limited. Applications are now closed.
