 Citizens' Police Academy

Applications for the Spring 2012 Citizens' Police Academy are now closed. Applicants will notified soon of their acceptance to the class.

Get an inside look at law enforcement with the Citizens' Police Academy.  The 12-week program exposes participants to a variety of police functions, for a better understanding of how law enforcement operates.

Participants will go behind the scenes to:
• Drive a police car through an obstacle course
• Shoot firearms in a range
• Follow the evidence to work a mock crime scene
• Tour the Public Safety Building, Pennington County Jail and Juvenile Services Center
• Meet the SRT (SWAT), K9 Unit, Chief Allender, and other RCPD officers
• And much more!

Who should apply?
The program is great for social workers, counselors, healthcare professionals, teachers, government employees, family members of law enforcement, and anyone interested in learning more about the Rapid City Police Department (that’s you!)

When: Classes will be held on Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, starting March 8.

Cost:  There is no cost to participate, but class size is limited.

Requirements: Participants must be residents of Pennington or a surrounding county, be at least 21 years of age, fill out an application, and submit to a background check.

For more information, contact Sgt. Mark Eisenbraun at 394-4133 or Mark.Eisenbraun@rcgov.org.
