Teen & Adult Summer Reading Program

 For Teens

All Teen Summer Reading activities are open to participants between the ages of 12-17.
Those ages 18 and up are encouraged to participate in the Adult Summer Reading Program.

Teens can earn one entry in the end of the summer prize drawing for every 250 pages read. A participant must submit one paper entry form every time he or she reads 250 pages of any book or combination of books. Forms can be turned in at the Youth Services desk in exchange for a series of small prizes and one grand prize entry for each form for a total of five drawing entries per person for reading, plus an additional three drawing entries per person possible from activities. This means teens can earn a total of eight entries in the end of the summer prize drawing by reading 1,250 pages and completing all three activities.

ACTIVITIES

June: Book in a Jar- earn one entry in the Teen Summer Reading drawing by correctly guessing the title of the shredded book on display in the Young Adult section of the Downtown Library. The jar will be available in YA from June 1-30, 2014. Entry forms must be turned in at the Youth Services desk by the end of the day on June 30.

July: QR Code Library Scavenger Hunt- earn one entry in the Teen Summer Reading drawing by completing a QR code scavenger hunt at the Downtown Library. The scavenger hunt may be completed any time from July 1-31, 2014. Each participant must provide his or her own tablet, smartphone, or other device capable of reading QR codes for the scavenger hunt. Completed entry forms must be turned in at the Youth Services desk by the end of the day on July 31.

June and July: Read-In @ the Library- earn one entry in the Teen Summer Reading drawing by reading for an hour at the library from June 1-July 31, 2014. Teens must check in at the Youth Services desk when they arrive, read at the library for one hour, and check out with the librarian at the Youth Services desk after an hour to earn completion credit. Participants must complete the entire hour at one time and the last day to do so is July 31. Teens may only complete this activity one time to earn a summer reading drawing entry.
