The Downtown Library is the hub of the Rapid City Public Library system. We first opened our doors in our current location in October 1972 and renovated with an expanded Youth Services area in 2003. Since then the Downtown location continues to meet the needs of the Rapid City community as the town and population grows. The Rapid City Public Library's catalog has 170,000 physical materials (books, periodicals, DVDs) as well as over 5000 e-books, downloadable audiobooks and videos and growing daily. With over a million circulations a year the RCPL offers a wide range of services, programs and resources for Rapid City and beyond.

About RCPL North
Since completion of the new General Beadle Community School in 2008, the Rapid City Public Libraries has enjoyed its presence as a joint-use public facility inside of elementary school. With 28 computers, open Wifi, DVDs as well as a gaming station with a Wii console and several games, the RCPL-North facility is a small but vibrant addition to the North Rapid Community. Being housed in school also has its perks with a large collection of children's books available to the public plus a storytime nook. Public meeting rooms are also available for use through the General Beadle Community Center Coordinator.
