Rapid City - Pennington County Geographic Information System

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer program that stores and displays spatial information, such as roads, tax parcels, and aerial photographs.  What makes it different than, for example, an engineering drawing program is that a database is attached to each map layer.  This allows the user to access information about elements in the layer using the map, such as the owner name and accessed value of a land parcel.  Conversely, a user can search the database and find a location on the map.  One might request a list of all the tennis courts in the city from the database, select one court from the list, and have the map zoom to that court.

What´s new:  We are working on a new web mapping application for reviewing the County digital flood maps we recently received from FEMA.  When we get the site running, we'll post the web address here.

Rapid Map:  Interface to all interactive maps.  Opens up with Rapid Map as the default interactive map.  There is a drop down in the upper right that allows access to other interactive maps such as Parks-Recreation, Voting Districts, and Survey Points.
