Based upon the current climatic conditions, dry ground fuels and resource commitments, the Rapid City Fire Department is implementing the following burn ban effective immediately. The across the board approach is intended to minimize confusion among the public and also reduce the emergency response to smoke investigation reports.

All outdoor burning will be prohibited to include outdoor appliances such as chimineas, fire places, recreational fires, fire pits ect. Typical cooking appliances such as LP gas fire appliances remain acceptable. This ban will remain effective based upon the current Fire Danger Index rating of Very High or greater, as declared by the Northern Great Plains Interagency Dispatch Center.

The ban will be automatically suspended when the Fire Danger Index falls below the Very High category, and again enacted upon the elevation to Very High or greater.
